Privacy Policy

To use ChopWise you create an account with Sign in with Apple, Google or your email address (with a one-tap sign-in link, no password). We keep your account identifier, your email address (or Apple's private relay address) and your name, if you give it.

So your plan can be worked out, your diary is kept safe and you can sign in on a new phone, we store in your account:

• Your profile: name, username, profile photo (stored privately), sex, date of birth, height, weight, goals, activity level, diet, how many meals you eat, focus areas and anything you type for "Something else"

• Health information you choose to tell us: health concerns (such as diabetes or high blood pressure), eating habits and foods you avoid. We use it only to make your plan and meal warnings safe and suitable

• Your personal plan: daily targets, meal split, and the explanation and tips written for you

• Your diary: meals, workouts, water and weigh-ins

• Foods and meals you save or create, with their photos

• Your progress photos, stored privately so only you can see them

• Your app settings: appearance, reminder times, step goal, nutrition goals you set yourself, the other options in Preferences, and whether you'd like marketing emails

• A referral code, the friends who joined with it and any free time you've earned

• Simple daily counters (for example, how many scans you've used today) that keep the service fair

Your Apple Health data stays on your iPhone.

Your account data is stored with Google Cloud and Firebase in the United States, encrypted in transit and at rest, and can only be read by you when signed in and by our own systems that run ChopWise. If you live outside the United States, your data is transferred there with safeguards required by law.

• Meal scans and descriptions: when you scan a meal or label, say or type what you ate, describe a workout, ask us to estimate a food, or finish onboarding, the photo or text (and, for your plan, your answers) is sent to our server and to our AI provider, Anthropic, to estimate nutrition or write your plan's explanation. Scan photos aren't stored, and Anthropic doesn't use them to train its models.
• Voice log: what you say is turned into text by Apple's speech recognition, on your iPhone where your language supports it (otherwise Apple processes the audio under its own privacy policy). Only the text is sent to us; we never receive or keep your voice.
• Food search: the words you search for are sent from our server to USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts, public food databases. Barcodes go to Open Food Facts. Nothing about you is included.
• Subscriptions: payments are handled entirely by Apple; we never see your payment details. Apple tells us about your subscription (for example, when a trial starts or renews) using an anonymous code linked to your account, so we can give referral rewards.
• App verification: Apple's App Attest and Firebase App Check confirm requests come from a genuine copy of ChopWise. They don't identify you.
• Support: if you email us, we receive your email address, your message and the app and device details added to it.

Our server keeps short technical logs (such as how long a scan took, your account identifier and search words) to keep the service running and fix problems. They contain no photos.

To understand how ChopWise is used and to fix problems, we may collect usage information (such as which features are opened, app version and device type) and crash reports, using service providers such as Google Firebase. It's used only to improve ChopWise and doesn't include your meal or progress photos. Where the law requires it, we'll ask for your consent first, and you'll be able to turn analytics off in the app.

If you allow it, ChopWise reads your steps, active energy, workouts and weight from Apple Health, and saves your weight and calories eaten to it. This data stays on your iPhone and is only used to personalise your goals and add calories burned to your daily budget. It is never sent to our servers, used for advertising or shared with anyone.

ChopWise uses the camera only when you scan food, a barcode or a label, and your photo library only when you choose a photo. Reminders are scheduled on your device by iOS. You can change any of these permissions at any time in the Settings app.

• We don't sell or rent your personal data
• We don't use your health information, diary or photos for advertising
• We won't track you across other companies' apps or websites without asking your permission first through Apple's App Tracking Transparency
• We only use your information to run and improve ChopWise

• Delete Account in Profile permanently erases your account and everything stored for it, on your iPhone and on our servers, straight away. Your App Store subscription is managed by Apple: cancel it in Settings
• Log out keeps your data safe in your account; it comes back when you sign in again
• You can correct your details any time in Profile
• You can turn off Apple Health, camera, photo and notification access in the Settings app
• You can export your data any time with Export PDF Summary Report in Profile

Depending on where you live, including under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and the EU and UK GDPR, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your data, to receive a copy of it, or to object to how it's processed. We keep your data while your account exists and delete it when you delete your account. For any request, email us at support@chopwise.app.

ChopWise is not intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you're under 18, please use ChopWise with a parent or guardian's permission.

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Only you can read your account data when signed in; our security rules block everyone else, and your profile and progress photos are private to you. Data on your iPhone is protected by iOS. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and keep what we collect to a minimum.

We'll update this policy as ChopWise grows, for example when analytics arrive. We'll change the date at the top and let you know in the app about any significant changes.
